Technology · The Eureka

Don't create the pressure. Use it.

Conventional desalination fights the ocean - forcing seawater through membranes with high-pressure pumps on land. Waterfountain cooperates with it, letting the natural pressure of the deep sea do the work instead.

Conventional RO

Seawater is drawn in at the surface.

High-pressure pumps force it through membranes on land.

Pressure generation is the biggest energy - and cost - driver.

Waterfountain

The system is placed at depth in the ocean.

The water column itself provides the hydrostatic pressure.

Energy input drops - you stop fighting physics and cooperate with it.

The deeper you go, the more pressure you get for free. That is the invention: not a better pump, but no pump where the ocean already does the work.

The physics

Three principles, one invention

01

Don't create the pressure. Use it.

Conventional desalination forces seawater through membranes with high-pressure pumps. Waterfountain uses the natural pressure already present in the ocean water column - the deeper you go, the more pressure you get for free.

02

Let the ocean do the work.

By placing the system at depth, the surrounding water pressure drives the reverse-osmosis process. Energy input drops dramatically because you stop fighting physics and start cooperating with it.

03

Fresh water rises.

Once passed through the membrane, fresh water is lighter than seawater. Combined with a controlled air lift, it naturally rises to the surface through the riser pipe - no deep-well pumps, no high-energy recovery systems.

Environmental impact

No brine. More water. Less impact.

Fresh water shouldn't come at the expense of marine life.

Traditional desalination systems can discharge highly concentrated brine back into the ocean, creating environmental challenges for marine ecosystems.

Waterfountain takes a different approach.

By harnessing natural ocean pressure and an innovative subsea desalination process, our technology is designed to significantly reduce the environmental impact associated with conventional brine discharge.

Our ambition is simple: produce fresh water while protecting the ocean it comes from.

Why it matters

The differentiator is energy.

Pressure generation is the largest single cost in reverse-osmosis desalination. By sourcing that pressure from the ocean itself, Waterfountain changes the unit economics of fresh water. Measured performance - with full installation context - is documented on the Proof page.
